Recreation and Classes

Check out the Spring Class Schedule listed below. There's lots of classes to choose from and very competent teachers leading them. Try something new and have FUN!

 

How to register: Mail in your payment and completed form document  (which you can pick up at the Center or ("Download Here" ) or drop it off at the payment drop box in the Center lobby. Use the slot labeled "Class Registrations." You may also walk in or phone the Milwaukie Center at 503-794-8092 or the Aquatic Park at 503-794-8080 (hit 0) to register using a Visa or Mastercard.

Scholarships: Scholarships are available for residents that are over 55 years old who have difficulty paying the fee. Please ask the Recreation Services office for an application. Milwaukie Center scholarships are provided through donations from the Friends of the Milwaukie Center.

Spring CLASSES

Sit-N-B-Fit
A low key and informal approach to exercise especially for those who have mobility issues or have difficulty standing while exercising.  Slow stretches and balance exercises will help tone and stregthen muscles to increase mobility and flexibility.  Sara Stauss teaches the class with care while promoting social interaction. *CCC

Easy Does It Aerobics
Instructor Sara Stauss leads this class that includes warm-up, stretching, aerobics, cool down and a bit of weight work.  This moderate workout is a positive step to maintaining personal health through a prudent exercise regime.  *CCC

Tai Chi - Advanced

Tai Chi - Beginning
Easy Tai Chi class for beginners.  Come participate in this wonderful art of an ancient Chinese technique. You'll learn to improve concentration, strength, balance and flexibility.

Personal Fitness
Advanced beginner to intermediate aerobics.  Anything from boxing, resistance training, bands, weights and floor work.  Bring a floor mat and an open mind to create a routine you'll love and stick to with the help of instructor Teena Hall. *CCC

Light Aerobics A

QiGong
Location: North Clackamas Aquatic Park, 7300 SE Harmony Rd., Milwaukie
Qigong is a relaxing meditative exercise with origins in China. It is practiced to improve health and is a combination of slow, repetitve movements of stretching and meditation. Appropriate for adults of all ages.

Yoga
This class will improve strength, flexibility and concentration. All levels are welcome. Bring a mat to class

Zumba Gold

Chair Pilates

Water-based acrylics offer a variety of possibilities.  Color theory, glazing and other techniques.  Open to beginners and experienced painters.

Use many different mediums in order to learn the basics of drawing in a classical format.

Oil Painting (Download supply list)
An introduction to basic composition and color mixing.  Some beginners find it hard to begin when faced with the blank canvas, so that friendly word from a neighboring student pushes them gently forward.  Instructor Jill Wilson gives one-on-one attention to help you create a masterpiece.  Material list available. *CCC

Watercolor Painting ( Download Supply list )
Pure Poetry!  Renee Ugrin instructs students in the basics of this luminous medium to evoke the Muse of watercolor.  The classes are fun and productive with many opportunities for beginners and experienced to learn line and color theory.

Printmaking
Each term will be a great chance to explore a variety of printing methods. Designing your own images will provide many creative opportunities--relief, monotype and chine colle. A small fee charged for shared materials.

New! Printmaking Workshop

Come and join us for a creative morning of printmaking. Our easy to cut blocks will be the same matrix for creating art prints. Demos will be presented, and instructor will be on hand for guidance. Tue., April 27, 9 am-12 noon. Fee: $13  62+ $10

Explore the Arts Workshop - Graphite
Have fun with pencil and paper and learn to add different textures and values when you sketch or do detailed drawings. Country Line Dance - Beginning
Newcomers learn patterns at a moderate pace.  Come on in and put down your favorite steps with DeeDee as she reviews dances from the start and makes sure you  know them before moving on.  *CCC

Spanish IV

Mon., March 29-May 17, 10:30-11:30 am. Speaking in Spanish is stressed. Focus will be on proper verb tense. Students will develop sentence and conversation skills.  *CCC Fee: $36  62+ $27

Computers: First Steps (Level 1)

Click on Special Interest Groups to see what we offer. Like to play bridge, pinochle or pool? Are you a quilter or woodcarver? Lots of interest and activity groups meet daily, weekly or monthly at the Milwaukie Center to share mutual interests. $1 activity fees apply. Drop in!
