Nutrition Services

The Milwaukie Center meals program has been here longer than the Center! The first community support for senior services rose out of people's concern about the isolation of later life. The result? The North Clackamas area's first senior meals program in 1975—five years before Center doors were opened.

Today, our Nutrition Program reaches deep into the community with home-delivered meals and attracts a diverse group of people to the Center to enjoy each other and nutritious mid-day meals.

Home Delivered Meals

Staff and volunteers pack an average of 200 nutritious meals a day that go out to adults age 60+ five days a week in 15 different routes that cover the North Clackamas service area. mealservice1_2.jpg meal1right.jpg
Weekend & Holiday Meals
Persons eligible for home-delivered meals may also receive frozen meals prepared at the Center and delivered on Thursday or Friday for later use on the weekends or holidays. The same boundary, eligibility and cost factors apply, as above.
Lunch at the Milwaukie Center
Seniors who come to the Center may sit down to a balanced full-course meal served at 12 noon Monday through Friday. Meals served or sent out from the Center are prepared on-site in our full-service commercial kitchen by professional staff. Volunteer groups from the community serve each table.

For those who prefer a morning coffee break or lighter mid-day
meal, soup, sandwiches, pastries and beverages are available on
an ala carte basis, Monday through Friday from 9 am to 1 pm.

All at a reasonable cost!

HOW DO WE DO IT?

The Nutrition Program operates through the energy of great volunteers and generous amounts of community support.

You help most when you:

  • Support our fund-raising activities. . .
Stop in for a bowl of homemade soup and a sandwich or piece of pie at Pete's Cafe. Visit our annual Fall Craft Bazaar or participate in the many March for Meals activites throughout the month of March. Attend our Famous Sunday Dinner in November, have an ice cream sundae with us in August or come to the "End of Summer" Barbecue. These and other events help to meet on-going expenses.
  • Volunteer. . .
Lend a hand as an individual or group! Can your workplace cover a meals-on-wheels route or team up to serve in the dining room once a month? Maybe you want to take a turn at Pete's Cafe, help pack meals or play the piano at lunchtime. There are always openings for people who want to help!
  • Contribute what you can. . .
Memorial gifts and donations-bequests, annuities or cash may be made directly to the Nutrition Program and will help provide meals to seniors who need them.
